There’s absolutely nothing I love more than happening upon a museum, and then realizing that the collectors obsession matches one of my own! This museum of iconography is not to be missed. Time and money and love have all been invested in this place, and it shows. The docents were lovely, and the museum itself is just simply stunning. Beautiful, beautiful iconography here. The gift shop leaves a little bit to be desired, but that’s not why you go to a Museum anyway!
Stunning Russian Icons. Also a photographic display of the founder's motorcycle journey from Europe to Japan. There was a temporary exhibit of WWII posters at the time I visited. Helpful staff. Beautifully meatless in central Massachusetts.
Perhaps the finest collection of Russian Icons outside of Russia itself, displayed on three levels of this jewel of a museum. I visit at least once every year, not only to study their permanent collection, but the temporary and traveling exhibitions that the museum hosts. For those in closer proximity to Clinton, MA, the museum also has educational programs and events. If you have the time, the historic parts of Clinton are also worth seeing, a place once renowned as a center of innovation and production of woven textiles. That industry is gone, but the town is worth exploring.
Such a unique museum. Really beautiful with in edible pieces and a very knowledgeable staff.
What an incredible Museum this is. I would highly recommend it to anyone to see. The facility is first class all the way, and the docents are very knowledgeable. The "Tea Room" has an illuminated ceiling and three restored jail cells you can visit and research in. Oh my, they are small and cozy, no place I would ever have wanted to visit for real!
Opening in 2006 this Museum is a cultural wonder fir the western Suburbs of Boston. In November 2022 two new temporary exhibits opened, "Artists for Ukraine: Transforming Ammo Boxes into Icons" and "Tree of Life: Birch Icons Through the Ages" now thru February 2023
It was a solid gallery of Russian icons. It is a great place to go if they interest you, but if they don’t, know that there isn’t really anything else. I know little about Russian icons, so it was hard to differentiate them. Maybe some info …
Amazing hidden find in Clinton. Beautiful Icons. Very well set out displays. So interesting, not only how the collection was amassed, but the history going back centuries, Great descriptions of how the Icons are made. Finally the staff are …
Stunning, well-curated collection with enough explainers to illuminate the process of producing icons and their meanings. Don't miss the tea station and samovar collection in the basement, and the old cells. It's a really pleasant place to sit and meditate with some exceptional Kusmi tea.
Beautiful little museum in Clinton! I have never heard of it, but found out about it through a flier at a hotel. Great place to visit for anyone interested in medieval art or Russian culture or religion.
This is a great little museum! Very specialized- you won’t find a mishmash of objects here. It’s about 80% Russian icons, most of them dating from the 15-19th centuries, but also a few older ones and some other interesting liturgical …
